One of Nature’s Most Perfect Foods…

So this last weekend we went down to San Diego. This trip had multiple purposes (each of which will probably be posted about seperately), one of which was so that I could visit Lolita’s Taco Shop and partake in the perfect food known as Carne Asada Fries. I had never heard of this dish until I lived in San Diego. In fact, my friend Ben will always be on my speed dial simply because he introduced me to them.

Carne Asada Fries (CAF) are made of relatively simple components. You start with some nice crunchy french fries to which you add chunks of carne asada, sour cream, guacamole and cheese. Lolita’s adds a nice powdered cheese on top of it all, but I have no idea what kind it is. Its so simple to make, but like most foods, a lot of it goes into the preparation. I’ve had CAF from other locations in San Diego and they really paled in comparisson to those at Lolita’s. I think the secret to Lolita’s CAF is that the fries are nice and crispy and there is a lot of every component in the dish so in every bite you can get every single flavor of the dish.

Its been very tough to find them at restaurants in the area so now my goal is to find a way to make them at home. I think I’ll be forced to get a Fry Daddy or something to get the fries to the proper level of crispiness. If you are ever in San Diego, please do yourself the favor of visiting Lolita’s and partaking of the Carne Asada Fries. While everything else on the menu is awesome, you will never find a better plate of Carne Adasa Fries.

[...] While at the convention, we got to see plenty of our friends.  We saw Joe and Dottie, all of Maryanne’s cronies at Oni Press, crazy Tommy, the Moore’s, Judd and a few others that I am sure I’m forgetting.  Zoë did well at the convention, but I have to admit that the parking and crowds bugged me a little.  To unwind after the convention on Friday, we headed over to Lolita’s for some comfort food.
