Ain’t Technology Grand?
One of the things that really makes my day is getting cute pictures of my little ones. Think back just 10 years ago and remember how long getting pictures took. Sure, technology had advanced enough to do 1 hour processing but you still had to drive to the store, drop them off and then come back and hunt through the big box for the packet of your pics.
Now, you take a picture and email it immediately, no matter where you are. Yeah, yeah, I know this has been going on for a few years now, but every now and then it’s good to get a reminder that we live in the future.
Here’s what Maryanne sent me a few minutes ago that sparked this line of thought:
I love youtube
Ok, I love youtube. Only partially for the videos. The most entertaining aspect of youtube is the comments. Look up any video and odds are there is some sort of ignorant vitriol being spewed about something or someone.
Just a few minutes ago, I watched the latest installment of Auto Tune the News and saw a link to a T-Pain video. The video was about his “I Am T-Pain” app on the iPhone. Basically the video has T-Pain showing his app to a bunch of R&B / Rap artists. The first comment below the video totally cracked me up.

HAHAHA, what?
If only…
I had forgotten about this funny webcomic about movies called “Joe Loves Crappy Movies“. It’s pretty self exlanatory. He likes crappy movies! Anyway, while catching up on the comics I have missed, I came across this gem:
Haha…Obama fanatics…

Spider-Man is saying "Hey, if you get to be on my cover, can I be on the dollar bill?"
Yesterday’s issue of the Amazing Spider-Man had a variant cover featuring Barack Obama. For those not familiar, a variant cover is a alternate cover of a particular issue that is produced in limited numbers. Typically it’s done just to fuel the collector market. This issue was no different. The current store we go to instantly jacks up the price on particular variants. I totally disagree with this policy, but since I usually don’t care about variants, it’s not that big a deal for me. Personally, I think if you are a regular subscriber to a comic, you should get a variant. Joe at Atlantis does it that way, which is another reason it’s the best comic store evah (number one reason is because that’s how I got to know my dear wife ((eventhough she totally flaked on me multiple (((3((((how many times can I nest aside comments?!?!)))) ))) times when I tried to ask her out)) !)
Well, our comic store had it marked up to $39 and when I went in, they were checking out all the auctions on ebay, with it selling for crazy amounts of money. So on a whim, I picked up a copy. I listed it on e-bay and Amazon marketplace for $99.95.
Woke up this morning to see an email from Amazon saying that it sold. How crazy is that? A quick $50 profit after shipping.
I guess Obama is already redistributing the wealth!
Really, this is for Maryanne…
…but since I have already launched one sneak attack, I felt it best to post this here instead of on her site:

Ok, this rocks….
In the past people have asked me how effective I think martial arts would actually be in a ‘real world’ situation. I’ve always felt that rarely would I use any of the more ‘flashy’ things I have learned and would fall back on the more simple judo or jujitsu techniques.
This video is a great example of why:
News from the world – puppy hating department
See this cute puppy? This is rebel, a Scottish Police dog-in-training.

He is also the cause of a big stir over in Scotland where Rebel has outraged the Muslim community in Tayside. The police there started passing out postcards to make people aware of a new non-emergency contact number. They soon started receiving phone calls from Muslims complaining about the adds because they consider dogs to be “ritually unclean”.
The police department responded with, “We did not seek advice from the force’s diversity adviser prior to publishing and distributing the postcards. That was an oversight and we apologise for any offence caused.” This is mindnumblingly ridiculous political correctness!
I guess we can take a little comfort in knowing that other countries have to deal with this kind of nonsense as well.
An interesting point to consider: if Rebel is a police dog, isn’t he technically an officer of the law? So basically they are saying that they find a member of the police to be offensive. I’ve heard a lot of people in Santa Cruz say they find police to be offensive, but it didn’t get them anywhere.
